Key Trading Concepts

Spread

The spread is the difference between the buy (ask) and sell (bid) price. It is how brokers earn revenue on most trades.

Leverage

Leverage lets you control a larger position with a smaller deposit. A 10:1 leverage means $100 controls a $1,000 position. Gains and losses are both amplified.

Margin

Margin is the collateral required to open a leveraged position. If your account balance falls below the required margin, the position may be automatically closed.

Stop Loss / Take Profit

These are automatic orders that close your trade when the price reaches a specified level — to limit losses or lock in profits.

Pip

A pip is the smallest price move in forex. For most pairs, it's the 4th decimal place (0.0001). For JPY pairs, it's the 2nd decimal place (0.01).
